A Tricky Undertaking
Wilma "Willie" Rising has two great desires in life: finding the perfect embalming solution, and finding a man who's not repelled by a woman with a desire to find the perfect embalming solution. As a mortician in Portland's trendy Pearl District, Willie is more comfortable chatting with corpses than with the handsome reporter chronicling her career. But Brad Johnson becomes the least of Willie’s concerns when a hoard of greedy developers and disgruntled neighbors begin pushing Willie out of business. And when sexy Officer Max asks for help disinterring an urn of cremated remains for a criminal case, Willie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation — as a suspect. Just her luck, Willie ends up fighting a dueling attraction to both the cop and the reporter. If she doesn’t go to jail, lose her business, or kill one of her quirky colleagues, Willie just might have a shot at romance.
Brave Undertaking
(Work in progress)
Willie has grown rather fond of Brad Johnson — the laidback reporter with the mile-long eyelashes and the talent for tickling Willie through the phone line. When Brad asks Willie to handle the funeral arrangements for his uncle, Roger Graybill, Willie takes the job seriously. But when she contacts the VA about the burial benefits Roger’s entitled to as a veteran, Willie gets more than she bargained for. The VA has no record of Roger, and despite the old man's cache of war medals and photos, Willie and Brad come up empty-handed in their quest for proof of Roger’s military record. Did Roger lie about his service? Or is the government covering up a history Roger could never reveal to his family? Brad and Willie join forces with Officer Max — the sexy cop who sometimes warms Willie’s bed — and Joni — Willie’s sporadically-psychic receptionist — to get to the bottom of a mystery someone clearly doesn’t want them to solve
A Doubtful Undertaking
(Work in progress)
When Willie insists her former embalming instructor sleep off a martini binge in her bed, she doesn't expect the old guy to wind up snoozing six feet under. Suddenly, it seems everyone from the police to Walter's widow to Walter's money-grubbing kids want to have a word with Willie. But when someone breaks into the funeral home and strange things start happening in Willie's peaceful world, she knows there must be some secrets Walter didn't intend to take to the grave with him.
