Wilma "Willie" Rising has two great desires in life: finding the perfect embalming solution, and finding a man who's not repelled by a woman with a desire to find the perfect embalming solution. As a mortician in Portland 's trendy Pearl District, Willie is more comfortable embalming dead strangers than flirting with live ones. But romance is the least of her problems when she helps a cop disinter cremated remains, only to land smack in the middle of a murder investigation – as a suspect. To make matters worse, her mortuary is under investigation, and someone keeps trying to kill her.
Though the police want Willie to leave the investigating to them, she knows she has to take matters into her own hands if she wants to save her funeral home and her life. A romantic caper about a woman who loses her job, but finds love, intrigue, mayhem, and a new career in the unlikeliest of places – the landfill.
Losing a cushy marketing job and ending up driving heavy equipment at the landfill would be a tough blow for most women.
But JJ Schultz isn’t most women, so she gamely swaps office politics and dry cleaning bills for a chance to crush garbage with a 150,000 pound machine. As it turns out, she doesn’t miss her old life too much, though her love life was sure a lot simpler when she didn’t wear a hardhat every day. Between her hot new co-workers and her on-again-off-again boyfriend, JJ has her hands full.
